Blanchard is the place to come for chic, tailored interiors with bespoke lighting and furniture, and a personal approach. Diana’s warm, friendly manner belies a deeply professional and efficient service.
Cricket-mad Geoff and Kylie Kendrick couldn’t believe their luck when they found an apartment that not only had a view of Lord’s but also
offer a stylish place to entertain. It sits at the top of a red-brick building
in the leafy environs of St. John’s Wood close to the centre of London...
The house was advertised as having 11 bedrooms, two cloakrooms and no kitchen. "Who would be crazy enough to buy that?". But after viewing the property, Diana could see immediately that it had the potential to be a beautiful home.
From the early days, when she aspired to decorate a Regent’s Park house by Nash (she’s now completed three) she has established a reputation for up-market residential work, at home and across Europe. While she claims there’s no Blanchard signature style, it’s clear that clients come to her for a look of restrained luxury, incorporating natural materials, in traditional or modern contexts. She says the architecture is always her starting point, as are the classical principles of good proportion and symmetry, but ambience matters too. “Many of our clients have hectic lifestyles,” she says, “It’s my brief to create a haven of tranquillity for them.”
HOMES AND GARDENS
Ask Diana Blanchard why she became an interior designer and the answer is simple: “Because I am passionate about design and love working with people.” Having set up her design business, Blanchard, in Primrose Hill in the depths of recession in 1991, she knew the signs were good when the business not only survived but flourished.
Today, much of her work comes through word of mouth – clients are attracted to her subtle, sympathetic style, which veers between classic and contemporary depending on the project.
KITCHENS BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
BIDA member Diana Blanchard, director of Blanchard, has divided the room into specific areas and used glass, mirror and chrome for a light,
modern look. The design is clean and classic yet contemporary, with
plenty of storage. “The room will be warm and elegant, creating a space
that gradually reveals itself,” says Diana.
Interior Designer Diana Blanchard lives in the Cotswolds and heads eponymous design studios in London and Dubai. She works for clients around the world on projects as diverse as elegantly contemporary new builds to the classicism of period homes. Here she reveals some decorative insights and favoured resources.
